This paper addresses several important areas in the development of an electronic business (e-business). It outlines what e-business is and the three categories in which e-business may be sub-divided. An overview of e-business vs. traditional business describes the ways in which process efficiencies may be introduced and existing IT infrastructure may best be used to leverage the new opportunities. The business catalysts are investigated to determine precisely how the advantages of e-business may be gained. The infrastructure of e-business is then discussed with particular reference to the technology that facilitates it and the IT strategies that may be introduced to maximise it’s effectiveness. The issues of money (on-line transactions) and security will be briefly introduced (security issues may be understood in more depth in our Introduction to Security White Paper.) Finally, the challenges that e-business face are then disseminated.
